It's been approximately 30 years since the original 'EVIL DEAD' film has remarked. An interview with producer/ex-director 'SAM RAIMI'; who is also known for producing the Spider-Man trilogy expressed that an 'EVIL DEAD' remake was currently in the works and also that "the script is awesome, the remake is going to kick ass - you have my word." The original 'The Evil Dead' film was re-known as a film classic. With previous attempted tries to remake the original, no success was proceeded. 'Sam Raimi' expressed in an early interview he conducted that he did not like the approach they previously produced, so Raimi cancelled the project instantly. Late 2011 came and Raimi later determined whether if the remake was going to happen or not, it was a success; with an early 2013 release, Fede Alvarez was chosen to direct the inspired version.
The film introduces to a female protagonist named Mia (Jane Levy); who is a current drug-addict. Her former companions who reunite once again and retreat at the family cabin to cure Mia's inappropriate bad habits into this rehabilitation, however little that these friends know is that this cabin is cursed with a deadly secret. As soon as Mia is well aware of a smell haunting the residence, the crew discover that the basement has been apart of satanic rituals as it explains the smell Mia was sensing earlier on. The team isn't affected by the surroundings remaining Mia left suspicious of this situation.
Introducing to the scene we have Fede Alvarez, who was recognized by producing a short independent film that went global named 'PANIC ATTACK!', which was produced for only $300 - which earned him the position as the director of the next installment within the franchise.
When production began in April, 2012 - the film 'EVIL DEAD' wrapped two months later in July, 2012. The film 'EVIL DEAD' conducted a total budget of $17,000,000. A huge majority of the production was filmed in Auckland, New Zealand and was shot entirely in chronological order in 70 days. As Alvarez articulated that the film isn't entirely known to be a 'remake' but rather an inspired version of the original.
A huge problem that I've established when I first viewed the remake was that the film had a weak written dialogue. I certainly wasn't impressed by the decision for Alvarez to write the sequel as well as direct. It would've been a safer option if Sam Raimi himself wrote the actual script himself, rather than someone who wrote the script than later had to be translated into English. What I found rather interesting was that Alvarez has experience in mostly CGI - but the film itself 'EVIL DEAD' was filmed mostly practical, CGI was only necessary for touch-up sequences. Another aspect on which was rather disturbing to me was that you didn't have a sense of any background information on each character; I didn't even remember a majority of the characters names at times, with a lack of chemistry involved - the film became an unlikable experience developing into a slow-paced sequence.
I was surprisingly devastated at the fact that the production had a lack of promotion - with only a limited theatrical release within the American boundaries, even though 'EVIL DEAD' was distributed by Sony Pictures Entertainment, EVIL DEAD was a box office success grossing $25,000,000 all together, eventually grossing $97,000,000 with excess rental & DVD sales.

Also to the fans who are a fan of the Evil Dead franchise, I can spoil to you that there is a sequel in the development stages, slated for a 2015 release. It's been also rumored that Fede Alvarez will be directing the second installment within the franchise after the release of 'ARMY OF DARKNESS 2'; who is been directed by Sam Raimi and also starring Bruce Campbell. 'ARMY OF DARKNESS' and 'EVIL DEAD' will also develop a sequel into a mash-up of the two characters from each film into one film to complete the overall franchise.
The film 'EVIL DEAD' is in fact "Groovy" to myself as a fan from the original, but doesn't promise the audience who were originally a fan of the original film. If you're expecting a brainless blood-fulfilled scary, then you'll receive for what you expect. If you come into the film with high expectations, you may not enjoy the film itself. Surely 'EVIL DEAD' isn't perfection with its lackluster dialogue but it's rather entertaining for something to watch to kill time for a few hours. I'll grant 'EVIL DEAD' with a passing grade since I'm a generous person, if I were to review this film based on technical aspects it would receive a below-average score due to its poorly written dialogue, lack of chemistry and weak cinematography. I do hope Fede isn't directing any further sequels from now on.
