The Whaley House is a historical attraction that's held in San Diego, California. The film 'The Haunting Of Whaley House' is based on the event that occurred in 1857. Previously known as one of highest appreciated film The Asylum has produced, the film has been noticed by many film festivals, such as 'EVERYBODY DIES: HORROR FILM FESTIVAL 2012'. Writer/Director 'Jose Prendes' stated that since they were working on a limited budget that he had to cut out a huge majority of the action scenes during the final moments of the film, here is what the director expressed about the final sequence that was developed into the film. "That final scene with Penny was shot in two hours, which unfortunately means we had to shear away six pages of action. It was a huge, tragic loss for me." Ultimately the film only gained a budget of $115,000 dollars with a total of twelve days to shoot the entire production; which means a majority of the scenes were respectively rushed.
So it all starts with the protagonist named Penny, who currently works in the official 'Whaley house' as a tour guider. She is informed by her employer (who is played by Lynn Lowry) that accidents are regularly consistent in the household. Bethany (Lynn Lowry) also confronts her that she should abide by these rules - which involve; don't call the ghosts out, don't damage the house and last of all - never go inside the house at night. Which of course disobeys all these rules and gets herself into trouble, but I won't go into much detail on that. Trouble starts to arrive when Penny has a small reunion with her friends, Penny's companions persuade her to reside in the house, despite her doubts. Only on one condition - if they're allowed to bring a paranormal investigator with them to do research; to find out if it is indeed 'haunted'. It's night time and all the difficulties start to untie itself.
Jose Prendes 'The Director of The Haunting Of Whaley House' himself quoted "Actually, everything you pointed out was forced on me by The Asylum. They made me kill tons of people and they told me (the day before starting production I might add) that I had to have nudity in the film, and it wouldn't make sense for the main cast to get naked, so I had to shoehorn a scene where a chick gets topless. I tried to make it as obvious as possible what I was doing with that without saying "Hey, tits!". As for the Oil Man sequence, that is my greatest regret. With 12 days we had to rush A LOT". Despite the circumstances, the film 'The Haunting Of Whaley House' is definitely worth a watch, despite the film's circumstances - at one point throughout the film, you can't visualize what scenes were rushed. It was definitely surprising to see Lynn Lowry on the big screen once again, even if she only has two scenes in the overall film. If you're a fan of the horror genre, especially by films produced by 'The Asylum', this may be the film to fulfill your night. It's a slow-paced film but creates dramatic tension whilst it gradually moves on. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. - Trent Browning ★ ★ ★★ / 5
On another note please do check out Jose Prendes' second installment he produced for the independent studio 'The Asylum', 'Hansel & Gretel'. Jose himself didn't direct the film but made a huge impact on the project itself.
